FORD ECONOLINE

Ford's lineup of Econoline vans and passenger wagons is expanded for 2000 with an E-450 Super Duty stripped chassis. Econoline's Triton engines add more horsepower and torque. The lineup serves up a number of additional improvements to strengthen the its leadership in sales, safety and customer loyalty.

New Offering

The new E-450 Super Duty stripped chassis boasts a maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 14,050 pounds. The standard powertrain for the new stripped chassis is Ford's powerful and dependable 5.4-liter Triton V-8 engine and a four-speed automatic overdrive (4R100) transmission. Ford's 6.8-liter Triton V-10 engine, also teamed with a four-speed automatic overdrive transmission, is optional.

Power-Improved

The 5.4-liter Triton V-8 and 6.8-liter V-10 engines both serve up more power for 2000. The V-8 powerplant's horsepower increases from 235 to 255, and the V-10 horsepower increases to 305 from 265. Torque increases from 335 foot-pounds to 350 for the V-8 and from 410 to 420 for the V-10.

Year 2000 Upgrades

• Four-wheel anti-lock brakes now standard on all models
• Light convenience group, including courtesy lights, rear cargo light, chime warning module, "headlamps on" alert, illuminated entry and door courtesy lights for all doors now standard on all models
• Handling package is now standard on all Econoline wagons and vans
• Trailer towing package is standard on all wagons
• Remote Keyless Entry and power sail-mount mirrors are standard on recreational vans

The extensive Ford Econoline lineup offers E-150 and E-350 Super Duty passenger wagons, E-350 and E-450 Super Duty cutaways and E-250, E-350 and E-450 Super Duty commercial stripped chassis. Trailer tow ratings range from 4,700 pounds for an E-150 van or wagon powered by a 4.2-liter sequential electronic fuel injection (SEFI) V-6 engine to 10,000 pounds for an E-350 Super Duty extended van or wagon with a 4.10 rear axle ratio powered by a Triton 6.8 liter SEFI V-10 or 7.3-liter Ford Power Stroke turbocharged diesel V-8 engine .

On a common 138-inch wheelbase, Econoline wagon passenger accommodation is seven or eight for the E-150, twelve for the E-350 Super Duty, or fifteen for the E-350 Super Duty extended. Ford's fuel-efficient, smooth operating 4.2-liter SEFI V-6 is the standard engine for the E-150 wagon, with the powerful and smooth-running Ford Triton 5.4-liter SEFI V-8 engine standard on the E-350 Super Duty wagons. A 4.6-liter Triton SEFI V-8 or 5.4-liter Triton V-8 is optional on the E-150 wagon. E-350 Super Duty wagon engine options are the 6.8-liter SEFI V-10 and 7.3-liter V-8 turbodiesel. All engines are teamed with an automatic overdrive transmission, and all gasoline engines feature a fail-safe cooling system to help protect against engine damage in case of a coolant loss.

Since its 1960 introduction _ originally as a van, wagon and pickup _ more than 6 million Econolines have been sold.
