Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2000 17:10:30 PDT Put a turbo in an 83 2.3liter long wheelbase rangers? I found apower run turbo out of an 89 fuel injected escort that I think I could rig up. But what would I need to do it right? I have the option to buy a 1987 2.9. It has 180 compression acorss all six cylinders. The junkyard wants $800 for it. Is this a fair price? The engine comes complete from intake to exhaust manifold, save the wiring harness. (But all of the sensors and parts are there) What do you guys think? My current 2.9 has that same compression (190 to 180) and 170K miles on it. I like to keep extras on the shelf, so would this one be a good candidate? Is the price fair? Northern California. They are expensive actually. You can try tapping it with a rubber hammer.. that works for some people, but it's only a temporary fix. Some people have luck with ones from a junkyard. Good luck and by all means get a second opinion, Steve Steve Nash wrote: > > My Explorer is 1991 4x4, but the 4x4 doesn't work. Check out www.4x4central. com for a procedure on how to clean the motor.=========================================================== David Cooley N5XMT Internet: N5XMT Packet: N5XMT I am Pentium of Borg... Hi Steve, They didn't say. They just told me compression. Simply put, "180". Just for kicks, I tested my compression on my 175K mile 2.9. With a brand new compression guage, I found 165 to 170 in all six cylinders. I tested 90 minutes after I shut off the engine. Is there much difference between the two? Would it be noticeable if I swapped motors? I was interested in the engine just for a back-up in case something goes wrong. Adam Stephen Bozzone wrote: > How many miles?
